Elections are administered by Returning Officers (one per UK Parliament constituency) overseen by the independent Electoral Commission (established by the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000). Paper ballots, in-person voting at the polling station 7am-10pm on polling day. Photo ID required to vote in person at parliamentary and local elections in Great Britain (Elections Act 2022, in force since 4 May 2023; not yet in force in Scotland or for Senedd or Scottish Parliament elections). Postal voting on demand (RPA 2000); proxy voting with limited grounds.     Polling stations open 07:00–22:00 on polling day. Photo ID required to vote in person in Great Britain since 4 May 2023 (Elections Act 2022 amending RPA 1983).
