Contents. The county canvassing board, upon canvassing the returns of a primary election, shall prepare an abstract signed by the members of the board and filed in the office of the county auditor. A separate abstract of the votes cast must be transmitted to the secretary of state according to reporting instructions specified by the secretary of state. The abstract filed in the office of the county auditor must contain all of the following: 1. The names of all candidates voted for at the primary election with the number of votes received by each and for what office. The abstract must be made separately for each political party or principle. 2. The names of the individuals or candidates of each political party or principle who receive the highest number of votes for the respective offices. If more than one individual is required to be elected to a given office at the next ensuing general election, there must be included in the abstract the names of so many of the candidates of the party receiving the next highest number of votes for that office as there are individuals to be elected to the office at said ensuing general election. The abstract must be made separately for each political party. 3. The total number of ballots cast at the primary election.
