Nomination of candidates (1) In the case of parliamentary and presidential elections, the nomination process begins 60 days before the election day and ends 30 days before the election day. In the case of local elections, nominations shall be made after the setting up of the electoral constituency councils in accordance with Article 157, but not earlier than 60 days before the election day. (2) The right to nominate candidates for elections, if all the conditions laid down in this Code are met, shall belong to: a) registered political parties, until the date of election is fixed, in accordance with their statutes (regulations) and legislation; b) electoral blocks; c) citizens of the Republic of Moldova submitting their own applications (independent candidates, candidates for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova). (3) The nomination process shall comprise: a) in the case of political parties and electoral blocks — the approval, at meetings of the bodies authorised in accordance with the statutory provisions or the instruments establishing them, of the decisions/resolutions confirmed by the minutes (extracts from the minutes) on the appointment of candidates/lists of candidates for elective public office, and, in the case of presidential elections, the setting up of initiative groups for the collection of signatures in order to support the nominated candidates, including the drawing up and submission of the documents required under the terms of this Code for registration as an electoral competitor; b) in the case of independent candidates/candidates for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova — submission of their own nomination to an eligible public office, as appropriate, setting up pf the initiative group for the collection of signatures in order to support the candidate, including drawing up and submitting the documents required under the terms of this Code for registration as an electoral competitor. (4) The procedure for nominating candidates also includes the collection of signatures by the persons submitting their own applications and/or initiative groups in order to support the candidates in the eligible positions. (5) The subjects referred to in paragraph (2) may not take decisions to start the process of nominating candidates/own applications before the start of the nomination period referred to in paragraph (1), and the documents drawn up for this purpose may not be dated before the start of that period.
