(1) In elections for the Senate, the Australian Electoral Officer shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the result of the election has been ascertained: (a) at the place of nomination, or at another place determined by the Australian Electoral Officer for the State or Territory concerned, declare the result of the election and the names of the candidates elected; (b) certify in writing the names of the candidates elected and attach the certificate to the writ; and (c) return the writ and the certificate to: (i) the Governor of the State in respect of which it was issued; or (ii) the Governor ‑ General if it was not issued in respect of a State.
