Scope This Act applies to elections to Iceland’s parliament, the Althingi, elections to municipal councils and to candidacies and elections for the office of President of Iceland. In the event that the Althingi decides to hold a public referendum by secret ballot on a particular issue or a legislative bill, the conduct thereof shall be governed by this Act. This Act also applies to the conduct of referendums held under paragraph 3 of Article 11, Article 26 and paragraph 2 of Article 79 of the Constitution.
